The President of the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA, and Director of the Euro-Mediterranean Network for Economic Studies – EMNES, Prof. Rym Ayadi, participated at the Euromed Summit of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions 2019, which took place in Barcelona, on 22-23.10.19. The event was co-organised by the European Economic and Social Committee and the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean.

The event started with an opening session, with the participation of Rachid Maaninou, Deputy SG of the Union for the Mediterranean Secretariat, Mr. Luca Jahier, President of the European Economic and Social Committee, and Ms. María del Carmen Barrera, acting president of the Economic and Social Council of Spain.

Prof. Ayadi participated in the session “Digitalisation and SMEs in the Mediterranean region, opportunities and challenges”, along with Ms. María Helena de Felipe Lehtonen, President of the Euromed Follow-Up Committee of the EESC – European Economic and Social Committee. Moderator of the session was Mr. Mohammad Nabulsi, SG ESC of Jordan.

Prof. Ayadi emphasized that a survey which was launched by EMNES and EMEA to evaluate evolution and readiness of SMEs on digitalisation, recommends that governments should upgrade their own infrastructure and develop legal frameworks to promote the digital economy and continuous training.
