The Euro-Mediterranean Network for Economic Studies (EMNES) is honored to announce that the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) has joined the partners of the Network as an associate member.

The European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), founded in 1989, is a consortium comprising the Catalan Government, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and Barcelona City Council. IEMed is constituted as a think tank specialised in Mediterranean relations based on a multidisciplinary and networking approach, which aims to encourage actions and projects contributing to mutual understanding, exchanges and cooperation between different Mediterranean countries. The Institute acts as a centre for studies and forecasts at the service of the public administrations, businesses, organisations and associations which carry on their activities in the Mediterranean area to boost cooperation and economic activity in the region.

The Acting Director General of the Institute, Josep Ferré, will be the the representative of IEMed to EMNES. Since 2007, Josep Ferré has been Managing Director at the IEMed and Acting Director General since August 2017. He coordinates diverse publications related to the main political, economic, social and cultural issues of the Euro-Mediterranean agenda and assessing Euro-Mediterranean relations and policies. He has more than 10 years of experience in conceptualizing and leading research and policy oriented projects and an extensive background in cooperation development programmes.

Furthermore, Roger Albinyana director of the Mediterranean Regional Policies and Human Development department of IEMED will also participate in EMNES. Roger is associate professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Barcelona and a board member at CIDOB, Barcelona Centre for International Affairs. From 2013 to 2016, he served as secretary general for Foreign and EU Affairs of the Government of Catalonia. During that period, he was also a member of the EU Committee of the Regions.
